An RPG card game with fantasy and pixel art aesthetics. The game is currently just a prototype, consisting only of a single zombie battle (both zombies use the same deck). The full game will include deck building, procedurally generated dungeons, unique boss fights, and multiplayer.

The game is currently free, but donations to support development are always appreciated!

Starter Decks

You can choose from three different starter decks, each with their own focus. The warrior deck is focused on direct physical damage and has cards with high attack and defense. The archer deck is focused on ranged damage and uses a bow and arrow, which can be used to deal quick damage on the first turn. The mage deck is focused on spells, which have unique effects, such as giving you extra mana or casting a spell for cheaper.

You can also create a custom deck by selecting 7 cards from the other decks. It must be exactly 7 or you won't be allowed to proceed.

The Game World

Currently, the game world is just a small town that serves only to funnel you to the enemy (just walk up). You can skip this with the skip intro toggle when you start a new game. In the future, this will be used for things like dungeons. Movement is tile based, but not turn based.

Controls

Use WASD to move and E to interact with NPCs and enemies. Use ESC to pause. There are currently no keybinds for the card battle aspect.

First Turn

Only ranged cards can attack on your first turn. This means that unless you play a ranged build, you'll be using this time to set up cards you want to use in the future, mostly entities (colored purple), but defensive spells can also be played.

Playing Cards

To play a card, you click on it in your hand and then click an empty slot on the board. Some cards can - or must - be played on another card. Valid cards will be opague, while invalid cards will be transparent.

You can only play a card if you have enough of the required resource. The warrior and archer decks use stamina, while the mage deck uses mana. Keep in mind that entity cards (except the wizard, which can't attack on its own) also have an attack cost of 1 stamina and won't be able to attack if you use all your stamina playing new cards.

The enemy uses blood, which is gained each time one of your entity cards die, so be careful what you do with them! You gain bones when one of your entities dies, but they're currently unused.

Dealing and Receiving Damage

When you attack, the attack value of your card (represented by a sword icon) will be dealt as damage to the space in front of it. If there's a card, it'll attack that card, otherwise, it'll attack the enemy directly. In both cases, the defense value (represented by a shield) will be subtracted, which means you need a card with a higher attack than the opposing card's (or enemy's) defense.

When attacking a card, any extra damage after destroying it will be dealt directly to the enemy, but this will be partially blocked by any defense points they have.

If you have a shield equipped (the warrior and archer decks do), then a die will be rolled to determine if you successfully block direct damage.

How to Win

Winning is pretty simple. You just reduce your enemy's health to 0 before they deplete yours. Since this is the first battle, it's not particularly hard, but leave a comment if you think there's a balance issue.

Shouldn't it be called cartomancy?

No, I didn't want people to think it was about fortune telling lol. Cardmancy is quite similar, but at least it's not an exact match. I may change the name in the future if I can think of something better.
